Progress!!

What a week!

We spent a couple of evenings this week at the house, during which time Alex was able to get the kitchen drywall up. I also had Wednesday off which was spent doing mud and tape on the kitchen and ripping up the portion of hardwood in the living room which is being converted to tile. Since we enlarged the kitchen we will have tile across half of the main floor. I found a very nasty smelly surprise as the previous owner’s dog liked to pee in a couple of spots, which got trapped under the hardwood.

Alex decided to open up the doorway to the basement as well – I thought we were done demo!

Friday Alex worked on adjustments to the HVAC and I worked on sanding the upstairs. Saturday was more of the same, although Alex did not have much time at the house as he had to go in to work for a bit for a big model home relocation. Saturday afternoon we took the rest of the day off to go to a Redblacks game since I got free tickets from work! We were both tired and Alex was very frustrated with fighting with the ductwork so I think it was a good call!

While we were gone, our hero and saviour – my dad – finished off the duct work and got quite a bit of other work done to help prep the house for tile install!

Tile is such a huge goal to me! First of all we will get to sit back and let others do the work, which is very exciting. So many walls and floors will get finished that it is going to make a huge difference! We are planning to have Pedro and Sons at the house this week to do the work. We are almost ready!!

I spend the whole day today priming the upstairs washrooms while Alex and Super Dave finished framing the bulkhead in the kitchen.

All the wiring is finished and dad labelled the breaker panel beautifully! Then he moved on to more mudding in the kitchen, which I enjoyed having a break from.. I will be back at it soon as I need to tape the drywall Alex just finished.

It feels like we have made a lot of progress! Tomorrow we will be back at it after work to continue prepping for tile, but hopefully we will get a break soon when Pedro arrives! 🤟
